«Summer of Soul» inaugurates DocuRock 8

The official section of DocuRock 8 will be shown from October 1 to 29, 2022 at Multicines Tenerife, on non-continuous days.

Previously, on Wednesdays in September (from September 7), also at Multicines Tenerife, at 7:00 p.m., the DocuRock Classic section will be screened, made up of fiction feature films. Tickets, at €1, can be purchased on the day of the screening at the same cinema. The fiction cycle concludes with the screening of “Los Chicos del Coro” on September 30, starting at 7:00 p.m., in collaboration with the Charlas de Cine Association. Tickets for this pass, which includes a dialogue at the end with members of the educational community, can be purchased at the cinema box office and on the website www.multicinestenerife.com for €2.95. “The choir boys” (2004, 95 minutes) became a social phenomenon at the time. 8 million French and a million and a half Spaniards saw it in the cinema. “Summer of Soul” (2021, 117′) will open the official section on Friday, October 1, at 8:30 p.m., DocuRock 8. At 8:00 p.m., Kim Simmons will present songs from her album “Free” . The documentary, which premieres in the Canary Islands, reflects in images the Harlem Cultural Festival, which was held in parallel to Woodstock, and in which Stevie Wonder, B.B. King, Nina Simone, Mahalia Jackson or Mavis Staples, becoming a celebration of black music. Tickets can be purchased for €1.95.

On Saturday, October 8, at 8:00 p.m., “Amazing Grace” (Aretha Franklin), (2018, 87’) will be screened. In 1972, Aretha Franklin gave a gospel concert at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles. A team led by Sidney Pollack filmed it with 5 cameras, but it didn’t see the light of day until 2018. Tickets can be purchased for €1.95.

On Friday, October 14, at 8:00 p.m., we will be able to see “The Beatles and India” (2021, 92 minutes) Documentary that commemorates the 50th anniversary of the historic trip of the Liverpool quartet to India, which marked a point of turning point in his career. Tickets can be purchased for €1.95.

On Friday, October 7, at 7:00 p.m., in collaboration with the Charlas de Cine Association, the classic «Saturday Night Fever» (1977, 117′), which made John Travolta an icon of culture, is screened popular thanks to his character of Tony Manero. Tickets can be purchased for €4.95.

On Friday, October 29, at 8:00 p.m., “Nightclubbing: the birth of punk in NYC.” is screened, which glosses the history of the Spanish rock group that marked the 90s. Tickets can be purchased for €1.95 .
